About Allergies
What is an allergy?
An allergy is an over reaction of the body's immune system to an ordinarily harmless plant or animal substance (allergen).
An allergic reaction occurs when the body inappropriately produces histamine to fight off the allergens, resulting in symptoms of allergy.

- Allergic Rhinitis (Seasonal Hayfever & Perinnial) ----------------------------------------------
Rhinitis means "inflammation of the nose". Rhinitis is considered to be "Allergic Rhinitis" when there is a relationship between exposure to an allergen and the appearance of nasal symptoms.
There are two types of Allergic Rhinitis:
(1) Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis (Hayfever) - when a person experiences symptoms only during particular seasons, for example Spring and/or Summer. It is usually due to an allergy to various types of pollen which are carried by the wind and easily breathed through the nose. When people talk about hayfever, it usually means Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis.
